Enclosed is a personal letter from Alexander R. McKee, U.S. Consul, in part expressing unhappiness over the Civil War, "this wicked and unprovoked rebellion". On the back of the envelope McKee has added an update "By telegraph from Aspinwall. Hurra for old Kentucky — Zollicoffen Army routed utterly and teetotallyhe and Baily Payton left dead on the field — Humphrey Marshalls army also routed…"
