Estimate 150 - 200

In 1886 a law was passed to license the import of opium. The duty was set at $1 for each half pound of opium imported. When the supply of $1 revenue stamps dwindled surplus $1 postage stamps were used. Legal import of opium was ended in 1888. The "J.M.K." stood for John M. Kapena, the general collector of Customs from October 1, 1886 through April 30, 1887. It is one of the scarcest of the five fiscal cancels typically found on the $1Kaleleonalani.
