1871 (18/30 July) envelope from Reval, Estonia to Zurich (4.8), bearing pair 1866 10k cancelled Reval c.d.s., sent by rail via St. Petersburg (20.7/1.8) with red Eydkuhnen-Bromberg "Aus Russland Franco" c.d.s. (2.8), manuscript "3" (Sgr.) credit to Prussia, Very Fine. The rate was 18k but due to a shortage of low values the cover was intentionally overfranked by the post office. A manuscript "min 2 kop" notation indicated that 2k was refunded to the sender.

In Vevey the letter was assessed 20 Décimes (2 France) due from the border.

1869 (3/15 Sept.) folded letter from Odessa to Lugano (23.9) via Vienna (19.9), bearing 1865 1k, 5k & 20k and 1866 3k cancelled Odessa c.d.s.s, red oval "Frankirovano" and blue sender's handstamp, also backstamped Chur (21.9); trivial sealed tear at bottom, a Very Fine and attractive four-color franking. The 29k rate included 10k internal postage and 19k (30 Kr) for external. Switzerland's portion was 5 Kr and Austria's at least 5 Kr. The excess indicates that perhaps the cover was rated as double weight in Russia.

1867 (9 Feb.) folded letter from Poti, Georgia, to Constantinople, bearing 1865 10k strip of three and France Empire perf. 40c boldly cancelled "498", carried by the Ropit service to Trebizond and then by French ship, with "Trebisond/Turq. d'Asie" (26.2) and "Constantinople/Turquie" c.d.s., rate to Constantinople introduced on 1 January 1866, cover has addressee's name restored and slight splitting at folds, stamps Very Fine. One of the most important covers of the Levant and a marvelous exhibition item.
