THE ONLY RECORDED 15¢ BANKNOTE WITH SPLIT "I" GRILL VARIETY, AND ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED 15¢ "I" GRILLS ON COVER.

There are only six recorded 1870 15¢ Banknotes with the "I" grill variety. Of these six, there are two recorded on cover and two mint examples. The example offered here is the only one of the six with a split grill variety. The Scott catalogue currently does not list the 1870 National Banknote Issue grill varieties separately, but has identified them by a notation preceding Scott 134 as the "H" and "I" grills. The "I" is far rarer, expecially on the 10¢ and 15¢ where only a few examples have been recorded so far.
