Tsumeb: 1915 (26 Aug.) censored envelope from Missionary Vedder at Garb to Berne, Switzerland via Capetown (17.9), bearing 1913 1d red strip of 5, cancelled by rare "Tsumeb/Südwestafrika" converted German canceller (Putzel No. 4), showing manuscript censor alongside and Capetown blue censor handstamp on reverse in addition to customary South West African censor handstamp and tape, Fine usage.

The German Tsumeb canceller was originally altered by cutting a line through the word "Deutsch". It was subsequently completely removed, resulting in the space above "Südwestafrika" in the c.d.s.

KGV 4d registered postal stationery envelope used 1915 (14 Sept.) and censored to Tonsberg, Norway, via Capetown (25.9), and London (14.10), and returned ("inconnu"), bearing 1913 ½d green, cancelled by very fine "Tsumeb/Südwestafrika" converted German canceller (Putzel No. 4), showing "Tsumeb" handstamp and manuscript number (in lieu of registration label) alongside as well as various instructional markings and transit cancels relating to the envelope's return principally on reverse, some very light soiling, Very Fine usage and a very interesting and well-traveled cover showing a very scarce origin cancel.

According to Putzel, the unaltered German canceller was used for only a short while and is very rare, although he notes that it had an index A, while the above example shows an Index C that he did not record in his Handbook.

1916-1939 extensive collection of converted German cancellers, consisting of approximately 65 covers, eight cards and seven pieces with stamps, including Albrechts, Aus Rail, Aroab (2), Berglands (2), Bethany (3), Brackwasser, Ekuja (piece), Erundu, Gibeon, Guchab (2), Hatsamas (piece), Kalkfeld (2, including 1928 usage), Kanus (plus c.d.s. red on piece), Kaps Farm (piece), Karibib, Kolmanskop (2), Kub, Kuibis, Neuheusis, Maltahohe (3), Mariental (2), Otavifontein (2), Omaruru (2, including a 1933 usage), Ondonga, Outjo (4), Seeis, Tses, Tsumeb, Ukamas, Usakos, Warmbad and Witvley (2, including a 1938 usage), showing a wide variety of usages, including censored, registered, international and official mail, a comprehensive and highly desirable collection, including many scarce towns, nearly all Very Fine, while there are a few later items, nearly all are likewise from the period before 1923.
