Scott $1,250+

Provenance: Leeds

This error is caused by the overprint on the left pane of the 200 subject plate being shifted to the right, thereby leaving the left vertical row of that same left pane with no overprint (Scott #56d, CASG #56c.II). Since there are only 20 of this latter error recorded, and 30 of the double "ZONE" error, it is likely that authorities discovered the third pane and either destroyed it or removed the ten unoverprinted stamps.

Scott $1,000

ONLY 20 ERRORS ARE RECORDED, TEN OF WHICH HAVE "ZONE" IN THE SELVAGE.

Provenance: Plass

This error was caused by a shift similar to that of the double "ZONE" error, though, in this instance, the overprint was shifted to the left on the right pane of 100 leaving the right vertical row without an overprint. Just as with the double "ZONE", there is a discrepancy of ten between the numbers recorded of the double "CANAL" error (20) and the omitted overprint (10 [an 11th was caused by a foldover]). Again it is probable that the other ten stamps with the missing overprint were destroyed by authorities.

Canal Zone Unissued 5¢-$1 Coat of Arms (69 footnote), complete set of seven, mostly dry o.g. as usual 12¢ pinpoint this speck. Otherwise F.-V.F. CZSG 69A-G $2,450.

The decision to begin using overprinted U.S. stamps in the Canal Zone beginning on July 1, 1924 resulted in the cancellation of plans to release the seven high values of the Coat of Arms set. Panama requested that 600 sets be sent to them, ostensibly for transmission to the U.P.U. in Switzerland. Soon after that request was complied with, however, sets became available from stamp dealers in Panama, France and England. It is assumed, therefore that the small quantity of sets now in collector's hands are from this group of 600 sets sent to Panama. The balance of the supply was destroyed in 1937.
