3d blue diagonal bisect with 6d yellow green (2a, 4), on 1856 envelope to Rickmansworth, indistinctly cancelled but well tied by "Ship Letter/Paid/Liverpool" tombstone datestamp in red, matching "5", backstamped "Bridgetown/N.S." (Sept. 15), "H/NS" and "Watford" (Oct. 5), arrival datestamp (Oct. 5) on front, cover faults and edgewear affecting 6d on two sides, nevertheless Fine example of the 7½p rate to England. SG 2a, 5. AN EXTREMELY RARE STAMP UNUSED, OF WHICH ONLY A FEW TRULY SOUND EXAMPLES ARE KNOWN AND FURTHERMORE VIRTUALLY UNOBTAINABLE WITH ORIGINAL GUM.

Nicholas Argenti considered this stamp to be rarer than the 1/- purple unused and possibly as rare as the 1/- cold violet unused. He could only trace a few sound examples in auction over his thirty years of research, since the majority of the dozen or so offered were either in inferior condition or suspect.

1851, 1s deep violet (7), the so-called "cold violet" shade, definitive color and characteristic heavy impression beautifully contrasted with the blueing in the paper, lightly cancelled by oval grid and with part red transit c.d.s. in one corner. Tiny marginal corner crease at bottom just crossing tip of the frames. Nevertheless an Extremely Fine and exquisite example of this rare and distinctive shade. SG 7. Unitrade C$8,000 ($6,000).
