1858 (Oct. 30) to Melbourne, Australia, envelope bearing 1857 3¢ dull red (26) and 10¢ green, type I (31) horizontal strip of three, positions 5-6-7R1, all cancelled by red grids, matching "Cleveland Paid" c.d.s., carried by Cunard Line Europa to Liverpool, red London (11.19) and Australia (2.7) transits, magenta "28" credit; small faults, Fine, the 33¢ British mails rate via Southampton.

1830 (Jul. 8) to Scarbourough, Canada, folded cover bearing red framed "Cleaveland, O" type II box postmark and magenta "25" rating, Niagara c.d.s. and accountancy handstamp having American Postage (1/3), British Postage (2d Ferriage plus 4½d postage) totaled to 1s9½d, reinforced fold splitting and paper loss at edges, Fine.

A SCARCE USAGE FROM CLEVELAND TO CANADA SHOWING THE FERRIAGE CHARGE.

Ferriage was an additional Canadian charge for conveying mail by ferry between exchange post offices. The charge was added to ordinary postage by distance. It was abolished on March 6, 1837.

New Brunswick was not part of Canada at this time. In 1851 an agreement, similar to U.S.-Canada, established a combined rate applicaable to New Brunswick, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
