Ken Lawrence gives a brief census of the First Day Covers of U.S. 1918 Air Mail Stamps in the March 2003 article. There are possibly three more C1 first day covers, but they not been seen or authenticated by experts.

The first day of issue for the 1918 16¢ green was July 11, this cover was mailed only two days later and prior to the official first flight on July 15. There are only a few covers mailed prior to the July 15 date, including only three documented first day covers.
