THE EARLIEST RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE 10 PENCE RATE VIA MARSEILLES FOR UP TO ¼ OUNCE WHICH CAME INTO EFFECT AS PER THE POSTAL NOTICE OF 1 SEPTEMBER 1863.
Expertization: 2006 Odenweller Certificate.
This unusual late usage of the Richardson 1d was caused by the increase of the postal rate from 9d (standard franking of 3d + 6d) to 10d.
