Trinidad, 1879 Foreign card San Fenando to Liverpool, bearing 1876 (1d) carmine in pair with diagonal bisect of same (S.G. 75, 75a), tied by one of two strikes San Fernando "2, My 8, 1879" c.d.s., Very Fine.
Estimate 300 - 400

Sent by a stamp collector to a stamp dealer, the collector having sent "250 used West Indian stamps" and requesting in return "one or more of the Philadelphia Pocket Time Indicator… or "the Lincoln Postage Stamp album, or even some cheap books or pictures…".

Trinidad, 1879 Foreign card to London, bearing 1876 (1d) carmine single and diagonal bisect (S.G. 75, 75a) tied by "1" cancels, two poorly struck double-arc datestamps (a more complete strike on reverse, 9 May 79) along with red London receiver (29.5); creases and corner tear but scarce as it is the earliest recorded correspondence from Postmaster J.W. O'Brien to his family in London.

Message on card notes "The Comet is still very bright. try and be up tomorrow morning at about 4:30 and you won't regret it." He refers to "The Great Comet of 1882" Which was visible from 1 September until 1 June of 1883.

Harriman & Co./Trinidad, B.W.I." purple serrated oval; vertical file crease, Fine and rare forwarding agent, the Royal Mail handstamp being applied in London.
