Lot 1435 |

1¢ green and 2¢ carmine, Kansas City roulettes (408-409 vars.), each in a bottom margin block of four with plate number, mounted on a 1919 affidavit sworn by M.O. Canfield, the 2¢ block initialed on reverse by Canfield, the 1¢ by Elmer R. Walters whose affidavit also accompanies, o.g., lightly hinged, fresh and Very Fine, a rare set of "plate blocks". Estimate 400 - 500
Expertization: 2005 A.P.S. Certificate for each.
When the Kansas City post office found itself with an over-supply of the 1¢ and 2¢ imperforates (Scott 408-409), they asked for and received approval from authorities in Washington to facilitate separation of the imperforate sheets. Consequently, the sheets were "perforated" using a dress maker's tracing wheel and a straight edge.
