1857, 1¢ blue, type Ia (19), position 92L4, exceptionally well centered with the bottom scrolls and right plume sufficiently visible, with intense color, bright paper and a light unobtrusive cancel, trifling toned perforation at top mostly seen from reverse, still an Extremely Fine and most handsome example of the rare 1¢ perforated type Ia.

The 5¢ 1857-61 issues in any of the shades are notorious for their close spacing. To locate the rare Indian red shade, with the large margins and true rich, unmistakable color of the present example, is virtually unprecedented.
