Wilhelm I (1797-1888), Soldier, diplomat, King of Prussia (1861-1888); first German Emperor (1871-1888); under his leadership and that of his prime minister, Otto von Bismarck, Prussia achieved the unification of Germany and the establishment of the German Empire.

Document Signed, 6 Aug 1829; includes 3m stamp picturing the unveiling of the Wilhelm I memorial in Berlin (94a, Mi. 96 A I b).
