Zumalacárregui labels, remarkable collection of these labels and souvenir sheets, Galvez 1/22, all honoring Tomás de Zumalacárregui, produced by a Ramon Gil Lasantas. The collection comprises about 185 singles, pairs or blocks and 70 souvenir sheets and includes background information and notarized copies of the original documents, from September of 1937 through January of 1938, in which Lasantas several times solicits the government of Navarra for authorization to print his labels and is finally granted permission after telling them that the labels were, in fact, already printed. A fascinating collection, one of the most complete of only about ten such collections that exist today. O.g., hinged or never hinged.
Estimate 4,000 - 6,000

Tomás de Zumalacárregui, 1788–1835, was a professional soldier who fought against the French in the Peninsular War (1808–14) and supported the absolutist cause during the disturbances of 1820–23. When King Ferdinand VII died (1833), Zumalacárregui supported the claim of Ferdinand's brother Don Carlos to the throne. As commander of the Carlist army, he distinguished himself as master tactician at both regular and irregular warfare. He was undefeated until his death in the siege of Bilbao (1835).

Civil War Locals collection, Comprehensive collection of Asturias & Leon, Barcelona, Canary Islands and the Local Patriotic overprints as well as the Orphans postage and telegraph stamps and groups such as Crusade Against the Cold, the Winter Auxiliary, Fronts & Hospitals and the Falange Española. Many hundreds of stamps, mainly mint, with most identified by Edifil or sometimes Galvez numbers. In addition to the listed material there is a load of unlisted varieties [as well as a good number of suspicious overprints that we have not counted]. Total Edifil catalog value, just for the listed material, is over €29,000 ($40,000), the Canary Islands, which is particularly specialized in nature, catalogs over €10,000 by itself, with Barcelona coming in at €2,900, Burgos at €3,250 and Seville at €1,500.
