FRANCE - PARIS STAR CANCELLATIONS, 1849-1876, magnificent collection of star ("étoile") cancellations of Paris in two volumes comprising covers (approximately 280), formular post cards (20) and loose stamps (approximately 1225) with an excellent representation of offices, different frankings on covers as well as unusual usages and interesting destinations; among the numerous highlights are the following stamps: 1849-52 Cérès 15c (2, one dark green signed Calves), 40c and 1f dark carmine (signed Brun), 1852 Présidence 10c (thin), all with four margins, and 1863-71 Laureated 5f (21, one on piece with Cérès 25c, two are signed Calves, mixed condition but some of Very Fine appearance), 1863 folded letter to Lima bearing 80c vertical strip of five and single cancelled by "2" in star and one stamp additionally tied by "Conduccion del Cartero Gratis" oval handstamp., 1870-71 ballons montés (5) including 1870 (Oct. 15 to Brussels bearing 30c St. Josse ten-noode transit of 18th) La Dagureee (Nov. 9, 1870) bearing 30c to London (address partly rewritten), Le Vaucanson (Jan. 17, 1871) "Lettre-Journal" No. 21 to Bordeaux bearing 20c and La Poste de Paris (Jan. 17, 1871) to St. Petersburg, Russia bearing 80c, 1873-76 folded letters to Veracruz bearing Siege 40c + Cérès 5c + 15c +80c (2, one defective) respectively, a truly monumental assembly painstakingly formed over many years.
