This cover illustrates the illegal absence of a both a sending and receiving postmark. The distinctive Philadelphia "R" cancellations were used only on registered mail.

The red brown ¢ shade was from the late 1883-84 printing and is exceedingly scarce on cover due to small printing and rate change.
