High Catalog Collection Balance, 1851-1930s, Comprehensive collection with moderate duplication arranged in a stockbook; loaded with high values with such 19th century highlights as (unused, no gum unless noted) #30 o.g., 36B-39, 56, 62B used, 70 100-101 used, 112-117, 119, 120 (F-VF w/'99 PFC), 144 used, 155, 156-166, 191 Columbians to $4 (30¢ F-VF, NH, $2 F, o.g., $3 F, LH, $1 & $4 stuck to page), 1st Bureau issue nearly complete (including used 272a), and Trans-Mississippis complete (o.g. except 50¢ & $1); 20th century is fairly complete and nearly all o.g. including #300-313 ($1 regummed, $2 F, o.g.), nearly complete Washington-Franklins, C1-13, C23a & c, E3, E5-9 Q1-12, etc. A high percentage of the high value stamps have faults (including repairs), but the are still a good number of Fine or better stamps and nearly all appear that way; among the sub-$500 stamps there are plenty of F-VF and even Extremely Fine stamps; and there are about 40 certificates. This is a terrific lot, but one that should be carefully examined.

The owner has cataloged the Australian area at about $5,000, but that is easily the best area. When he purchased it about 20 years ago, the total catalog value was estimated to be about $25,000.

Great Britain Used Abroad & Hong Kong Used in China, G.B. comprises about 75 items including the 5s used in Valparaiso Chile (£400) and in Constantinople (£250) as well as a 4d vermilion plate 15 used in Malta (£190) a 10d used in Beruit (£160) and a pair of 10d used in Arroyo Puerto Rico (£300); total SG value is over £1800; Hong Kong is about 60 items used in China, mainly Shanghai, with nothing really scarce. Also includes three Indian stamps used in Rangoon Burma. Condition is a little mixed but much is F-VF. A very interesting lot. The G.B. catalogs about £4700 in Gibbons and the Hong Kong is about $700 in Scott as normal used.
