THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE MAIL ROUTE STRAIGHTLINE USED IN COMBINATION WITH A STEAMBOAT STRAIGHTLINE.

This is an unusual use as the mail route marking was introduced to collect postage over the interior river routes by adding mileage traveled on those inland waters to the road mileage.
