Shield (Weiss RE-E2), two bold strikes, one ties 10¢ brown (150), exceedingly well centered within wide margins, on 1871 cover to Paris, France, two strikes of shield used to obliterate incorrectly applied "New York 'Paid 6' Jun 3" exchange c.d.s., proper "New-York Jun 3" exchange applied, red "Etats-Unis, Paq. Fr. H. No. 2, 3 Juin 71" applied by French postal clerk on French Line "St. Laurent", "8" decimes inland due rating h.s.; some light toning and spindle hole, still a Very Fine and striking use.

ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED RE-LF1 COVERS, THIS BEING THE ONLY ONE ORIGINATING IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.

The combination franking was required for express mail originating in Canada via the United States postal system, the Canadian 6¢ postage prepaid the cross-border rate plus the United States 6¢ postage as payment of the treaty rate to Great Britain. Cover was carried on the Hapag Line "Cambria" that arrived in Portsmouth on June 2.
