Circular Grid (Weiss UNC-5), two strikes, one cancels 3¢ green on cream (U165) entire bearing 6¢ dull rose (159) tied by second strike, addressed to Paris, France at the 9¢ treaty rate, endorsed "Steamer Weiland", New York (11.3) station A duplex backstamp, red "New York Paid Nov 4" exchange c.d.s., blue Cherbourg (11.16.75) entry c.d.s. and red "PD" framed h.s., Very Fine.

Split Circular Grid (Weiss UNC-7), clear strike ties 2¢ red brown (146), well centered, pre-use corner crease, on February 10, 1872 printed circular to Trinidad, endorsed "Circulars, via Havana", colonial "1d" credit handstamp, "Trinidad MR 7 1872" arrival double-arc datestamps and blue crayon "1" due rating for inland postage; small erosion hole, still Very Fine.

Lot 1391

Mechanical N.Y. Exchange Datestamp, two covers with unusual mechanical exchange datestamps, first Oct. 16, 1875 bearing #158, 159 at 9¢ rate to France with backstamp of red "New York, Oct 16, 11 AM" exchange d.s., and second 1876 folded cover franked with #179 and showing partial "New York Jan 15, AM" exchange d.s. to France; small faults, Fine and very unusual, only a few examples are recorded of this postmark.
Estimate $300 - 400

This postmark matches the postmark style without outer rim and moustache only at bottom used on domestic mail in black and duplexed with "12" in horizontal bars. See Cancellation Club News.
