'Free' Aug 9 1860" c.d.s.; stain spot, otherwise Very Fine.

Stephen Douglas beat Lincoln for Senator in the 1858 and was a major opponent in the 1860 election.

John Bell Supporters, well-written political letter datelined Albany N.Y., September 5, 1860, to Md. written by a Bell-Everett supporter talks of the political infighting in New York state, mentioning the "recent coalition of Bell and Douglas men" which "will result indefeating Lincoln in the state and thus throughout the country." and the "Breckenridge men here gradually going over to Douglas…" thus leaving "but one ticket in the field in opposition to Lincoln". Includes original envelope franked with a 3¢ 1857 and postmarked Albany c.d.s., envelope toned, otherwise Very Fine.
