A REMARKABLE LINCOLN MOURNING COVER USED ONLY THREE DAYS AFTER LINCOLN'S DEATH.

This design used a crudely rendered version of the 1863 Matthew Brady photograph taken at Gettysburg, Pa. Abraham Lincoln died on April 14, this envelope is perhaps the earliest mourning cover use.

Official Business Mourning Envelope, bearing "M. B. Field" free frank handstamp and endorsed "Treasury Department on circa 1864 cover to Baltimore, Md., "Washington D.C. Free Apr 19" c.d.s., Very Fine.
Estimate $200 - 300

By the fourth day after Lincoln's death, Treasury Department Assistant Secretary Maunsell B. Field had substituted mourning stationery for his official business matters.

May 31" duplex on cover addressed to soldier in Co. B 200 Regt. Pa. Vols. in Washington D.C.; slight soiling and barely reduced a bit at left, Fine and desirable design.
