1861, 1¢ blue, 10¢ green (63, 68), single and vertical pair (rough perfs at right) respectively, tied by quartered open corks duplexed with partial "Exeter Conn. Apr 18" d.c.d.s., on 1867 cover to Malaga, Spain, red "New-York Am Pkt. Apr 20" exchange c.d.s., "PAID-ONLY / TO ENGLAND" handstamp, red London (5.4.67) arrival backstamp, red "8.R" (reales) applied at the Spanish exchange office, Malaga (5.8) arrival backstamp, clean and Very Fine.

Provenance: Feldman

Carried on New York & Bremen Steamship Company "Baltic" that departed New York April 20 and arrived at Southampton on May 4, 1867. The rate to Spain via Britain by American Packet was 21¢ between October 1858 and February 1867. This steamship line was short lived operating only from February to December 1867 with four steamships undertaking 17 round trips with an Atlantic Transit of 14 days.

Dec 30" d.c.d.s., black "New York Post Office, Advertised, Jan 4 62" oval handstamp, apparently unclaimed and red "Returned D.L. Office, Mar 8" oval handstamp on flap, Very Fine and attractive mourning cover use, Ex-Brouillette.

1867, 3¢ rose, Z. grill (85C), clearly impressed grill, huge margins with natural s.e. at right, pre-use lower left corner fault, tied by large circle of wedges duplexed with neat "New York Jan 29" c.d.s. on clean 1868 cover to East Fishkill, N.Y., an Extremely Fine and rare use.

New York City added the time of day to domestic mail postmarks starting in early October 1868. As a result, this cover surely dates to 1868.

1867, 1¢ blue, E. grill (86), single with left selvage, beautiful color and strong grill impression clearly shown by target cancel, used on folded June 23, 1868 I.R.S. notice from Wellsville, N.Y. to local address, file fold affects selvage, stamp replaced improperly, Fine.

1867, 15¢ black, F. grill (98), bright color, possibly a double grill but cannot be verified without lifting, used with 1¢ ultramarine (134) and 6¢ carmine (137), tied by circle of wedges cancels on 1870 Davis correspondence cover to Lima, Peru, red "New York 12 Sep 5" credit datestamp, 1870 Lima receiving backstamp; sealed cover tears at top, still Very Fine and colorful mixed-issue franking paying the 22¢ rate to Peru effective March 1870, One of only two recorded 1866 15¢ & 1870 6¢ Lincoln mixed issue frankings.
