1851, 1¢ blue, type I (5), balanced margins, barely touching in a couple of spots but all type characteristics are completely visible, lovely fresh and bright color. Neat red N.Y. square grid cancel. Small expertly covered surface scrapes in vignette, absolutely invisible to naked eye and pretty much invisible even under magnification. Choice Very Fine appearance.

A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE ICONIC 1¢ 1851, TYPE I, FROM POSITION 7R1E, THE ONLY POSITION OF THE 1,000 USED TO PRINT THE 1¢ IMPERFORATES THAT PRODUCED THE COMPLETE DESIGN. ONE OF THE FINER OF THE 100 OR SO KNOWN EXAMPLES, AND A MOST HANDSOME STAMP AS WELL.
