Register of Boats Passing and Weighed on Susquehannah and Tide Water Canal Weight Local at York Furnace, Large bound register (approximately 18" x 10" x 4") containing hundreds of pages, most with the information on 40-50 boats, covers the period 1850-1853, the register includes such information as name of boat, where from, ship master, type of cargo, amount paid, etc., also included is a smaller "Day Book", covers 1857-1866, seems to be names of masters and weight.
Fascinating view into how goods were conveyed in this time period and should be of interest as well to students of inland waterways.

California Gold Rush Letter, "The Miner's Ten Commandments", illustrated overall design, Sun Print, San Francisco, patented 1853 by James M. Hutchings, letter datelined "San Francisco, April 14th 1854", lengthy letter with content. "California is a great country. not for the account there not being any gold for their is a plenty. the papers you have from here only print one side, the black side, they leave out there is not one half gold enough here in this country to even pay the miners." etc., couple minor flaws along some internal file folds, otherwise Very Fine, impressive and attractive.
