Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ green (1), deep color, faults of defects, tied by "Jackson (Miss.)/May 14 (1862)" c.d.s. on envelope to General Braxton Bragg at Corinth, Miss., "Politeness of Col. Cage," believed to be in the hand of Bragg's wife, opening tears at upper left. Estimate 150 - 200
Braxton Bragg was made a full general in the regular army just prior to the sending of this letter. By the end of May, General Beauregard evacuated Corinth where Beauregard had retreated after the fall of Shiloh. Bragg relieved Beauregard of his command of the Army of Tennessee on June 27.
