Written from Camp Stephens, the speculative letter mentions that "rumours have been circulating in this portion of Jeff Davis' army about fights in Virginia and elsewhere in the Confederacy in all of which our arms are represented to have been successful (except in the capture of forts Hatteras & Clarke by Genl. Butler)."
