Airmail, 1928, 5¢ Beacon (C11), block of four on airmail cover from Washington, D.C. to Catskill, N.Y., July 27, 1928, Very Fine and rare usage. The short-lived airmail rate of 10¢ per ½oz. was only in effect from Feb. 1, 1927 until July 31, 1928, at which time the rate was lowered to 5¢ for the first ounce and 10¢ for over an ounce. Thus this is the only potential for a C11 block in payment of domestic postage and it was only possible for seven days.
