 Two Covers to Alexander Stephens from his Half-Brother, Linton Stephens, both from Sparta to Crawfordville, Ga. and both with red Sparta c.d.s.s and red grid cancels; the first, dated Jan 10 (1861), nine days before secession, is a U.S. 3¢ dull red on a 3¢ entire (26, U9) with small edge tears at the top and part of top flap missing; the second, with a Jun 9 (1862) Sparta c.d.s. and a lovely 5¢ green, Stone 1 (1), the stamp VF-XF, the cover with back faults;. F.-V.F. appearance.
