Hawaii Postal Card, 1894, 1¢ red on buff (UX8), cancelled by partial strike of Honolulu, H.I. duplex to New York, N.Y., purple "T 5/CENTIMES" and "U. S. CHARGE TO COLLECT 2 CENTS" handstamps, U.S. 2¢ bright claret postage due (J39) added precancelled by New York oval, message side reads, "Hawaii, October 2, 1899, Hurray for Dewey," Very Fine, exceedingly rare postage due usage, the postal card was shortpaid 1¢ and rated due 2¢ for double the 1¢ deficiency per U.P.U. regulations.

This postcard was sent a few days after Admiral Dewey's flagship reached the coast of the United States on September 26, 1899. Dewey was returning from the Philippines after the Spanish-American war had ended and his duties were finished. He returned as a war hero leading a victory parade in New York City on September 30, 1899.
