Canada, 1851, Prince Albert, 6d slate violet with no visible laid lines (Unitrade 2 var.), large to oversize margins with choice color and a light blue target cancel, Extremely Fine and quite rare. Scott 2 var. $1,750+. Unitrade C$2,500+ ($1,880),
Expertization: 2011 Greene Foundation Certificate as "No. 2 without visible laid lines".
Despite the fact that there are no visible laid lines, the thickness and texture of the paper, as well as the color of the ink, are those of the laid paper printings. In Canada's Pence Era by Arfkin et al, the authors note that among the 1851 laid paper printings "there are ambiguities or rarities, such as stamps printed on thin wove paper".
