George Augustus (1683–1760) succeeded his father, King George I as King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1727 to 1760. He led Britain in several military engagements including the War of the Austrian Succession, in which he personally led his troops at the battle of Dettingen (1743) the last time a British monarch did so. By the 1750s, England was expanding as a commercial and colonial power, clashing with France over America (French and Indian War, 1754-1763) as well as in Europe (the Seven Years War, 1756–63). Patrick Gordon was the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania from June 22, 1726 to August 5, 1736.
