1847, 10¢ black (2), ample to large margins, deep color, perfectly detailed impression, tied by blue grid, matching "Milwaukie Wis. Jan 19" c.d.s., on 1848, folded lettersheet to New York, although it appears that the docketing was done by Henry Gibson when he removed the original lettersheet there is no conclusive proof that this indeed is a territorial usage (Wisconsin became a state on May 29, 1848), Very Fine and elusive usage. In his article on this cover in The Chronicle of the U.S. Classic Postal Issues, Feb. 1970, Vol. 22, No. 1, pages 9-11, Creighton Hart gives credence to Henry Gibson's docketing which would, indeed, place this as a territorial usage.
