1856, 5¢ red brown (12), large margins to slightly in, used with 1¢ blue, type II (7), both tied by "Mayville N.Y. Apr 29" c.d.s. on ca. 1856 cover to Oakland N.Y.; cover faults including sealed tear and reduction at left, 1¢ with light corner crease, Fine. Quite possibly the earliest recorded domestic use of the 5¢ 1856, but the year cannot be confirmed. Illustrated in Frajola and Mayer, p. 34, fig. 4-3. Estimate $750 - 1,000
