1893, 10¢ red brown, 5¢ ultramarine (68, 59 two), tied on fumigated cover by magenta four-ring cancellations to Ulm, Germany, matching "Honolulu Hawaii Sep 18, 1895" c.d.s. and "Registered Hawaii P.O." handstamp, reverse with San Francisco (10.9), New York (10.15) and Ulm (10.25) transits; corners clipped for "disinfection", Very Fine (see lot 3242 and 3260 for additional fumigated covers). Cholera was epidemic in Hawaii from August 20 to October 23 of 1895. All mail leaving the Islands was "fumigated" at least once.
