1852, 3¢ dull red (11), vertical pair, clear to large margins except barely in at bottom, placed over red "Carlisle Pa. 3 Paid Nov. 18" c.d.s. and well tied by "Carlisle Pa. Nov. 18" c.d.s. on cover to San Francisco, uncommon manuscript docketing "Rec'd pr 'Golden Age' Dec. 14, 1854 4 P.M."; trivial toning at top edge center, Fine and interesting usage. Estimate 200 - 300
Presumably postmarked with the "3 Paid" c.d.s. before the California address was noted. The proper postage was then affixed. Carried on the S.S. North Star (U.S. Mail S.S. Co.) to Aspinwall where it connected with the Golden Age (Pacific Mail S.S. Co.).
