American Letter Mail Co., 1844, 5¢ black, thin paper (2nd printing) (5L1), margins to slightly in, cancelled by red floral fancy cancellation on 2 February 1844 folded letter from Boston to New York, stamp creasing and gum stains from usual brown gum, a Fine usage with a very rare fancy cancellation (only 7-8 recorded).

Expertization: 1998 P.F. Certificate.

This is likely to be the first fancy cancellation ever used for cancelling an American stamp.
