1893, Columbians, large die proofs (230P1-245P1), complete set on India die sunk on 152 mm x 227mm cards, bound into a leather bound album, presented to Francois Aussaresses by D.E. Woodhull, president of the American Bank Note Company, with "Christophe Colomb, 1492-1892 stamped in gold leaf on the spine, the proof edges are also in gold leaf. Begins with a title page and then a page preceding each proof with the name of the value. The proofs are remarkably fresh (1¢ has a slight spot) and are in an unusual vertical format. It is believed to be one of only five produced, and the only one in French. Original dust case accompanies. A stunning set and a remarkable philatelic artifact.
