Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, Die A (11), bright color, sharp impression, large margins all around, tied by "Charleston S.C./Nov." c.d.s. on adversity envelope to Camden, S.C., made from an 1860 Charleston printed legal notice relating to limits placed on "negro" and "persons of color" including the ban on the sale of "Spirituous Liquors", Very Fine and particularly poignant example of the type of prejudicial treatment to which African Americans were subjected in all aspects of life in the slave states.
