Canada, Inspector General's Office free-franked cover, from Toronto to New York, postmarked red oval "INSPECTOR GENERAL'S OFFICE/FREE/CWD", red Toronto-C.W./Paid c.d.s., May 17, 1858, and two strikes red "REGISTERED", and "PAID" with red manuscript "15"(¢) indicating the U.S. equivalent of the 9d (6d + 3d for registration) that would have been paid had the cover not been free-franked, magenta registered number "19. 97x6" applied in New York indicates arrival there on the 19th; small stain at upper right, otherwise Very Fine.
