Newton, Sir Isaac (1642-1727), English physicist, mathematician, natural philosopher, formulated laws of gravity and motion, established study of optics, built first reflecting telescope. 10½ x 7½ ADS, no place name, Oct. 6, 1704, while Queen Anne's Master of the Mint, receipt for £487-17s10½d from James Vernon, a Teller of Her Majesty's Exchequer for the use and service of the Mint. Boldly penned and signed in the year of publication of his work Opticks which included his theories on light and color. Signed also as witness by "Jmiller" at lower left. Portion of blank integral leaf removed with remaining strip laid to old vellum-like backing at left edge wit nice woodcut entitled "Newton Analysing the Ray of Light". Minor natural affects of aging, Fine andexceptionally rare and desirable.
