Prince Edward Island 1861, 6d yellow green, perf. 9 (3), fresh bright color with perforations intact, tied by barred oval grid on 1863 mourning envelope (truncated lower left corner, but with original enclosure) to Boston, Mass. (backstamped July 4), showing "Prince Edward Island/Apr 23 1863" origin c.d.s. (on reverse) as well as an unidentifiable May 5 datestamp, instructional "Not called for" handstamp and pencil "Not known" notation; also the original returned letter wrapper printed formular folded letter from the G.P.O. in Charlottetown in which the letter was returned to the sender, backstamped Prince Edward Island Nov. 28, Very Fine. The enclosed letter is written by a staunch supporter of the Union inquiring about his brother who had enlisted in the Union Army, been wounded in the Peninsula Campaign, and eventually died while being moved from Harrison's Landing to Fort Monroe.
