Lot 1885

Rusk Texas, Mar 10, 1861, Very Fine c.d.s. on cover to Crockett, Texas with 3¢ dull red (26) cancelled manuscript "3", cover reduced slightly at top and slightly repaired but an attractive and scarce early Confederate Texas usage. In the enclosed letter, dated Mar 7, the writer speaks of awaiting news of Lincoln's inauguration and oppines that "Lincoln will have but a small share of the U.S. under his control…I hope and trust it all may be settled without blood shed…I am utterly opposed to the Union as it was, but…am much in favour of a Union." 2005 P.F. Certificate.
Estimate 150 - 200

Texas was admitted to the Confederacy on March 6, the day before this letter was written, a fact of which the writer was apparently unaware.
