Delivery was refused by a relative of the addressee, one Daniel Murphy. Accordingly, the letter was marked ":Returned Letter from Francis Murphy" and readdressed to the sender. The postmaster in Mount-Forest rated the letter at 10¢ due, the unpaid penalty rate for the double weight letter. No further registration fee was required (the original fee had been paid in cash) because the letter had not been delivered.
