Great Britain, 1814 (Aug. 10) folded OHMS letter with pre-printed "General Post Office" notice, of letter from the West Indies held for postage at a charge of 9s6d and numbered "232", addressed to Bordeaux, showing "Foreign Letter" c.d.s. and straight-line "Angleterre" entry handstamp, a very early example of this important source of revenue for the British Treasury during the Napoleonic Wars, as 3,884 letters were detained by the London GPO between 1814 and 1847, and this is a very low number.
