Netherlands East Indies, 1846 (Jan. 24) complete folded letter from Bordeaux to Batavia by "English Steamer via Suez, Ce, bearing "Aangebragt per Land-Mail./Te betalen port f 2 16 koper./Batavia, 12/4 1846" black on green label, showing framed "P.P." in red adjacent, and "Marseille" c.d.s. and framed "Singapore/Bearing" d.s. on reverse, a few letters of address acid-eaten, very early and rare Postage Due label employed to clarify final rate charge and negate any paid markings since prepayment was generally not possible to such destinations, NVPH I.
