Expertization: 1991 P.F. Certificate.

If it seems as if you have been waiting forever for a four margin #5A, there is a good reason. First, this stamp is quite rare in any condition, as the type 1bs were only produced from six of the 1,000 positions used to print the imperf 1¢ 1851s. Secondly, hand separation by scissors, the rigors of the mail system and the ravages of time have combined to leave few choice copies available. A search of all of the 5As certified by the Philatelic Foundation since 1945 has revealed less than 20 four margin sound examples. This example, with its strong rich color is one of the finest.
