Lot 2366
1903, $5 dark green (313), perfectly centered within enormous margins, particularly intense color and strong impression on crisp white paper. O.g., lightly hinged. Extremely Fine. A stunning gem. Scott $3,000
Expertization: 1986 P.F. Certificate.
The stamps of the 1902-03 issue were actually rather closely spaced and therefore, did not come with large margins, especially on the scarce high values. This $5 is the exception to the rule and, to the best of our knowledge is the largest margined mint single extant. Fortuitously, it is also perfectly centered.
