St. Louis, Mo., 1846, 10¢ black on gray lilac, ample to large margins except full to barely touching frame line at upper left, neatly tied by red "St. Louis Mo. Mar. 3" c.d.s. which effectively leaves most of design uncanceled, handsome color and f resh paper, on 1846 folded letter from the Charnley Whelen find, manuscript. "10" at far right, twice struck "Paid" handstamp, Very Fine, rare without the usual additional pen cancel, a particularly desirable usage.
